MY “BIG DAY” FEB 25TH 2010

A note before reading this: Beware…
  •  Terror mokkai below..
  • Full of own experiences..
  • No commercial elements added…!!!

The Final semester of my college life was one heck of a stressful ride. With placements going on, the pressure was at its peak. I attended a lot number of companies which was more than the number of companies thar went for recruitment to other colleges in TamilNadu as a whole. PSG TECH was is and will be the the best college regarding placements. But things were not going my way for a very very long and strenuous time. The time which I had thought would never come to me in my life had come and it was my biggest mistake to be unaware of this situation earlier.
In the initial companies I was not able to clear the written round itself but it didn’t bother me much as I was sure that the big software giants like TCS, INFY and CTS would definitely hire me though they come late for recruitment. Height of foolishness. !!!
The very first written round which I cleared was that of CTS and I was damn sure that I ll get through the personal interviews as well. But things happened the other way. Though I did pretty decent in the interview, they rejected me and I was dejected to the core. But later on I consoled myself saying that someone has performed better than me and this was the reason for my rejection. And so I missed the first biggie…!!!
Time went on and the second biggie came for recruitment. INFOSYS…!!! Cleared the written round successfully and luckily the personal interview was just an HR round. I was the first person to be called for the interview and so I had no idea how it would be. The interview went on rather smoothly and I till then I had never thought that I would be able to handle the interview so well. That kind of confidence was in me after I finished my interview. OVER CONFIDENCE…!!! My name was not on the selected candidates list. I was shattered but my tendency is that I wont show my emotions out very soon. Lesson learnt – Don’t be Over Confident …!!!
Days were just passing like hours to me after that. As I got used to the written rounds, I successfully cleared most of them with ease in companies like ADP, TCS, BOSCH, huawei, LASERWORDS, L&T and BANK OF AMERICA, and so on in a continuous stretch. Same result in the interviews – Rejected…
I don’t say that I prepared so well. But my preparation was good enough to get through these companies. I have to say that fate played in my life… I came so close to getting selected in BOA but in the tie-breaker between me and another IT guy , I lost.  By this time most of the guys in my department as well as my friends in other colleges were placed and you know how it would feel like to be a loser…
After thinking for many sleepless nights about my unknown future I came to a conclusion that “No more serious intentions about interviews. Lets me see where life takes me. I’ll do my dad’s business incase”.
Then came the turning point in my life – as a result of my take it easy decision??? Damn fate…!!!
Accenture came for recruitment off campus at CIT college Coimbatore. Without having any high hopes I attended the recruitment process. You have to believe me, the previous day I just browsed through the company’s website only once. I didn’t even skim through the basics of my important subjects. As usual written round was just a piece of cake for me. Then they conducted a GD in batches of 9/10. I had no hope that I would clear any rounds as CIT students were also competing with PSG tech students and it was open for all the departments..!!! But things started to work out for me. I am always allergic to GD’s. But to my surprise I did pretty well in GD. And the topic was “Educational system in India” .Got spot selected there. Confidence started seeping through me. Next round was that of technical. With little nervousness I entered the interview room. The guy who was there to interview me was not making me feel any confident. He was asking questions as if someone had forced him to be an interviewer. He asked questions in all the important subjects that I had studied from the 1st sem which includes C , C++, OOPS , OS ,DS,DBMS, NETWORKS, WEB PROGRAMMING and so on. But I was amazed at the fact that I was able to answer most of the questions.. Whatever question he asked, I was able to answer to his expectation. But his reaction was that of an uninterested guy till the end of the interview. I came out of the room with half my confidence gone. I have never undergone any technical interview which covered all the core subjects of CSE and so many questions in a short span. After a few minutes the result announcer guy came out and called me. He stared at me for a few seconds and said “Mr.Gautham …ummmmmmmmmm..”and again stared at me for a few more seconds (my heart beat was at its peak) “You can go over there and wait for the HR round over there…” I heaved a sigh of relief only then.. Wow..!!! I said to myself and went to HR round with full confidence. HR round was just a formality, they asked me to debug a program written by the previous candidates and asked a few questions about Accenture and some basic HR questions and that was it… I came out very much excited showing thumbs up to my friends waiting outside. Then the results were announced at about 6.30 PM the same day and I they said I got selected…. ;) ;) I was the happiest person in the world … ;);).. Adding to my happiness was that my best buddy was there at that time. Siddhu ;)
I should really thank my parents and a few of my friends who stood with me, and encouraged me all the way to achieve this. I would have been nothing without them. Lots of lessons learnt through these encounters which I would never forget in my whole life.

An important note : Sachin scored a record double century against South Africa the previous day(24th feb 2010) and these two incidents would remind in my mind forever ;)

The FORMULA ahead of the ONE

An important note before reading this blog : I ain’t undergone any competitive exams like GRE and IELTS etc etc. So don’t expect Peter English from me. Am using layman terms to write my blog ;).Please bear with me incase…!!!

It has been months since I posted my first blog. Was the reason for that is am being so busy with my other activities ?  No way..!!! sheer laziness. that’s me ;) .. The now living homo-sapien Gautham is an absolute lazy guy I ve been in my whole life..  ok I’ll stop fooling around and come into the topic.. so what to blog after a long time.. hmmm lets see.. what sport do I love the most in my life? Morethan anything I love Formula one. Today a strange thought crossed my mind.. How did I start liking formula one..? so I sat back and started turning my clock backwaaaaaaaaards .. the very first glimpse that came to my mind was that I was a 9 year old boy sitting in front(literally) of the TV browsing through channels.. Suddenly I came to a stop where some weird cars were racing.. Saw it for a couple of minutes, lost interest and switched over to some funny cartoon channel as all the kids would do  ;).. I completely forgot about that for a couple of years.
When I was in my 7th standard, once again I happened to come across an F1 race being broadcast on tv. But this time my brother and uncle were sitting with me and they started discussing about F1. I couldn’t understand the heads n tails of it.. I ve never seen two guys discussing a sport so fiercely other than cricket at that time.. It amazed me and poured a lot of interest into me about F1.. So I started watching the races then on and starting collecting some information about it.. Earlier this sport was pretty confusing to understand though you can say its just racing.. But then on I started getting into F1 slowly and steadily as I started watching each and every race.. When you view the race for the first time you may think that its damn boring but if you understand it completely you’ll never stop watching it.. Its that addictive.. Unfortunately, at that time I had no one to discuss this sport with, as each and every Indian around me was a die hard fan of cricket, I started feeling a bit lonely.. But that was not for long..  During my 8th standard I guess I discussed this sport with few of my friends and they started watching F1 ..wallah… got company ;) the break n lunch hours of school were filled with discussions of different topics ,the main being F1, thanks to my friends(actually 2 of them became so close after starting F1 discussions ;).. From then on the interest grew rapidly and guess what, till now I had watched less cricket matches than the F1 races..

A few interesting facts about F1 to kindle ur interest
The cars used in F1 championships are quite different from usual cars. Just go through these interesting facts on these cars and you will know how different both the versions are.

  • Approximate 80,000 components come together to make an F1 car. The cars have to be assembled with cent per cent accuracy. If it were assembled 99.9% correctly, it would go on the track with 80 components wrongly placed.
  • F1 car engines complete their life in about two hours of racing. Just compare this with normal engines which go on serving us faithfully for decent 20 years.
  • When an F1 driver puts brakes on his car he experiences huge retardation or deceleration. It could be compared to a regular car driving through a brick wall at the speed of 300kmph.
  • An F1 engine usually revs up to 18000 rpm. This means that the piston travels up and down 300 times a second. Road car engines rev up to 6000 rpm at max.
  • The brake discs in an F1 car have to withstand the operating temperature of approximately 1000 degrees Centigrade. They are made of carbon fibre which is much harder than steel and has a higher melting point.
  • The cars have more than a kilometer of cable linked to about 100 sensors and actuators which monitor and control the car.
  • An F1 car can accelerate from 0 to 160 kph and decelerate back to 0 in just four seconds.
  • An F1 car weighs around 550 kg.
  • Gear cogs or ratios are replaced after each race for they have to resist high degrees of stress.
  • Gear levers are located on the back of the wheel. The clutch levers are located below the gear paddles.
  • Most racing cars have their tyres filled with nitrogen. The reason being nitrogen has a more consistent pressure compared to normal air.
  • Road car tyres can last 60 000 to 100 000 km. On the other hand, racing tyres are designed to last only 90 to 120 km.
  • The tyres lose weight during the race. In a GP each tyre loses about 0.5kg in weight due to wear.
  • The cars can be refueled at 12 liters per second. The rig used would take just 4 seconds to fill the tank of an average road car.
  • Pit stop crews take only 3 seconds to refuel and change tyres

P.S : Couldn’t think of a suitable topic ;)

THE GREAT PLAN - 20 SEPT 2009 :

To start with, I never had the experience of organizing a trip but I didn’t expect the first one to be so challenging. It was two days before the trip, on one of the sleepless nights I had a weird thought on my mind,” We are nearing our end of our college life, so why don’t we go on a batch trip to some place”. So single handedly I decided that we can go to Ooty which is quite near to Coimbatore on a one day trip and so I sent an sms to all the classmates two days before. Surprisingly I got a positive reply from the girls first which I didn’t expect and it was good. But to my frustration none of the boys replied me for a very long time. But slowly after a painstalking two hours I started getting positive reply from the guys also. Everything went well. Most of the hostel guys and a few dayscholar guys agreed to the trip. But there again came a thunderstorm that on 21st sept 2009 , we have got a company that has come for recruitment which hasn’t been open for CSE. But there was a saying that it may open for CSE at the last moment. One by one my classmates started to withdraw from the plan owing to placement. I was so frustrated as it was a major blow on my first ever plan of a trip. Inspite of these controversies some of my friends suggested that we can still go on the trip because the probability of the company to open for CSE was very infinitesimal. So the next day (i.e the day before the trip) class trip suddenly changed its course as friends trip and few guys and girls accepted to come. It was about twenty people who had agreed to it. So I started arranging for transportation. Since it was Ramzan the next day and that weekend had three continuous days as holidays I wasn’t able to get a single vehicle. I was sitting frustrated unaware what to do next. At that moment , like a sign of light in a dark room my friend called me up and gave me a contact number of a travel agent. Finally I called him up and fixed up a van for our one day trip to Ooty. Feeling quite happy I returned home when things started to change. The day after the trip we had a retest of an internal paper (IP). So few guys left the plan. Few girls told that they were not comfortable with Ooty. I became half mental then. I was dumbstruck and I lay down on my bed and was staring at the ceiling blankly. I called up the travel agent and cancelled the van.But few of my friends didn’t lose hope. They said they will arrange for vehicles and they changed the spot to Topslip, Azhiyar dam and monkey falls. Finally twelve people agreed to come and I should say special thanks to my friends for offering their cars for transportation. Atlast after a strenuous day of planning and organinsing I went to sleep with high hopes for the trip the next day. And you wouldn’t believe who all agreed to come.
